The Destination! - Dealing With The New Year (Part II)

Dealing With The New Year (Part II) by Filoiann Wiedenhoff

Continued from Issue Mar 2008

The word repentance in the Greek means “to change your mind about that sin and turn in the right direction and walk in it.”  It’s more than just stop sinning but being willing to change your mind about that sin and making a conscience decision that you are not going to walk in that sin any longer but turning away from that sin and turning towards God and walk with Him

  1. New Possibilities:  There’s no limit to what God can do in your life and nothing is impossible with God.  God opens doors that no man can shut and also closes doors that no man can open.  The possibilities are endless with God that is according to His will. (Philippians 4:13)   Viewing the new year as a new season opens us to a whole new year of possibilities.   That anything is possible with God and that is exciting because when we are willing to seek him and be flexible God will take us to knew areas and new experiences that perhaps we’ve never been before but the good news is that He is with us through them and whatever he gives or wherever he takes us he will provide the power to do it.

Question: Are you willing to view the new year as a new year of possibilities?  Walking forward in new areas that He may take you?  IF you are I believe God is going to expand you and strengthen you as is with you each step of the way take each step being opened by faith.

  1. New Plans:  Every year is a new season, be prayerful of what God has planned for you and be willing to walk by faith in obedience as you follow His leading.  Remember that His plans are always for good and not for evil to give you a future and a Hope. (Jeremiah 29:11-13)

Question are you willing to view the new year as a year of new plans that God may have for you?  Are you willing to follow Him in whatever direction he may take you?  Even if you don’t understand what he may be doing?

The latter part of that passage is to remember that God’s plan is always to give you a future and a hope and  is always good for us.

  1. New Purpose:  As you forge ahead, God always has a plan and a purpose for what you will go through and experience.  Remember that God always has a reason for what He allows in your life and through it you can trust Him completely.  (Proverbs 1:3-5)

Questions   Do you believe that God allows the good and the bad to make you more like Christ? If you are not sure or completely convinced,  please pray and ask God to help you understand his sovereignty in your life and  that all things do work for the good of those who have called and will work for good according to  His good  purpose.  Scripture  passage.     One day I was thinking of the word Sovereign and doing a bible study on God’s sovereignty and I wasn’t happy with the definition that I found.  It just focused on His power but God’s sovereignty is more than just his power but his whole being as God.    So I thought how I would describe his sovereignty in my life and I came up with this definition:  “God’s complete orchestration of His Devine purpose”

If  you took a moment to look each of these words in the dictionary you would be amazed on how well this describes how God is completely and utterly in control of our lives, that He is omni-present meaning everywhere, omnipotent meaning all powerful, omniscient meaning he knows the past present and future.

When see God for who he truly is, and who we are in Him, through Christ it will change our view of how God’s perfect plan and purpose for our lives do involve trials, tribulations, tough times and stretching it helps us to be like the Apostle Paul who was willing to endure suffering and chains on the count of Christ’s

purpose that He had for Paul on this earth and how Paul’s obedience and willingness to receive good as well as the bad made him the man of God that He was.   There’s a passage that says be of good cheer for I have overcome the world for in this world you will have tribulations but.

As you view this new year as a year of new purpose remember that we’re not to just take or receive the good but also that God allows even the tough times to make us more like Christ.

  1. New Provisions:  The bible says to not worry about tomorrow for tomorrow has enough worries of it’s own.  Trust in your Heavenly Father who knows everything you need, who is your God and your Provider.  He is faithful and He will do it. (Matthew 6:1-33)   Talks all about how your heavenly father provides for even the birds and lilies of the field and how much more will your heavenly father provide for his children.  Share testimony.  The year that we started our new church plant Dan’s home business dried up to nothing that lasted for almost a year.  We were totally left to depend on God for everything and God was faithful to provide for our needs for that entire year.

Question:  As you view the new year as a year of new provisions do you depend on Him to provide for your needs?  If you are struggling financially today do you believe that God can and will provide for your needs?  The bible says Blessed are the poor for they shall see God .  During our darkest times, God’s presence is seen You can trust in Him

  1. New Growth:  When we are willing to let go and let God work in us and through us, He will always stretch us and grow us.  It is an important part of the growth process.  Continue to grow in your relationship with Him and in His Word.  Pray for God to mold you and make you pliable in the potters hand and then watch the master craftsman work on His masterpiece; which is you!

Question:  How moldable are you in God’s hands?  Are you willing to allow yourself to be teachable each  year as the Apostle Paul viewing yourself soberly in light of God’s word that like Paul has not taken hold of it?  Or are you in a place where you don’t think you need to learn or grow?   If you are in a place of being un-teachable the bible says to take heed lest ye fall..  Meaning that you need to be careful because pride comes before a fall.  No one is righteous and no one can say they have arrived yet or taken hold of it yet because our perfection is not complete until we are with Him in Heaven.

  1. New Wisdom:  With new experiences and new lessons come new wisdom and insight.  Always make it a priority to seek out wisdom as hidden treasure or fine gold.  In Proverbs it says that it will be like a garland of grace around your neck and honor you and present you with a crown of splendor.  (Proverbs 4:7-9)

  1. Renewed Peace:  As you go through new experiences and new adventures whether they are good or bad, my encouragement is to keep your eyes fixed on Christ and He will give you rest and peace, because He is our peace and loves you and cares for you deeply. (John 16:33)

Keep in mind that if even the wicked give good gifts to their children how much more will your Heavenly Father give to those that ask Him? (Matthew 7:7-11)  Let us give thanks to the Lord for getting us through another year as we look forward to what He has for us up ahead and praise Him that He is faithful and worthy to be praised!
