The Destination! - The Measure of a Man

The Measure of a Man by Barbra

  Prudence

A prudent man is truly a humble man. He has a proper view of himself and he is keenly aware of one thing; all that he has ( gifts, ability and possessions) are from God. Without Him, he is nothing at all.

A prudent man also has a proper view of the grace of God. He realizes that he was lost without Christ and that all of his human abilities and achievements were useless in winning favor with God. He realizes that God in His love sent His Son to die for the lost humanity, even while we were yet sinners. Paul never got over God’s grace in calling him and redeeming him, even when he was going about persecuting other Christians.

A true view of God’s grace will send a man to his knees in humble prayerful adoration and will then enable that man to rise to a new level of righteous and Godly living. It is the prudent man who can pray right. Peter said, Be of sound judgment (prudent) and sober in spirit for the purpose of prayer” (1 Peter, 4:7). An attitude of pride leads to bad judgment and immature thinking even in our prayer life. Prudence should not lead to weakness, are to be withdrawn or inhibited or lack self confidence. A prudent man is one who recognizes his unworthiness to be called a child and to be a member of God’s family, but yet stands straight with shoulders back and head held high. He has learned to achieve the divine balance in his life between being a man who gives all glory and honor to Jesus Christ.

There are two extremes, the exalted view of oneself or seeing oneself as nothing, they are both immature. The balance is recognizing that all we are and have is because of God’s grace, and that we also have not only human but divine sources for doing mighty exploits for God. We learn to establish a sound mind.
