Why Jesus Came to Earth! by Matt Mclean
The word Incarnation means: To become flesh. The term refers to the Christian doctrine that the eternal Son of God became a true human being in the person of Jesus Christ.
Gospels: Incarnation Affirmed,
The nativity stories given in Matthew 1 and Luke 1 describe Jesus' supernatural conception. Made pregnant by the Holy Spirit, not a normal conception by the seed of a human father. Mary bears a Son called Immanuel, meaning God with us (Mat. 1:23) Furthermore, John 1 speaks of Jesus as the eternal Word, who was God, and was with God in the beginning. The preexisting Word, Himself the Creator, "became flesh and lived for a while among us." In another passage John's Gospel identifies Jesus as the one who came from heaven (John 3:13 - 15). And who existed before Abraham as the I AM of the Old Testamant (John 8:57,58)
The New Testament teaches that Jesus was fully God and fully man. Key passages are Philippians 2:6 - 8, Colossians 1:15 - 20 and Hebrews 1.
Phillipians 2:6 - 8. Christ left His mode of existence as God to take on the existence of a human being. In making this transition, Christ did not abandon His Diety (the nature of God) but rather took on true humanity in addition to it. At History's end, the God man Jesus will be acknowledged as Lord by all.
Colossians 1:15 - 20. All the fullness of God dwells in Jesus. He is a perfect reflection of the invisible God, and in Christ "all the fullness of
the Deity lives in bodily form."
Hebrews 1. As Son of God, Christ is the "exact representation" of God's being. In the Old Testanment, God Himself calls the Son "God"
"Psalms 45:6,7"
These and other passages establish the Christian doctrine that the One who existed eternally with the Father as a distinct but equal Person took on humanity and lived a human life on earth. The Son was both fully human and fully God, at one and the same time, bonding both natures in the single person Jesus Christ!! Now this was what Jesus was destined to do as His life's ministry and through the Cross to forgive all of our sins in a final sacrifice.
