The Destination! - Poverty Wealth

Poverty Wealth by Betty Bolden

Poverty-Wealth

Have you ever wondered why the poor seem to help the poor more than the rich seem to help the poor?

We can certainly see this in a lot of ways.

Let's look at the passages below.

2 Corinthians 8:3-6 (NIV)

3.For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own, they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the saints. And they did not do as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then to us in keeping with God's will. So we urged Titus, since he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.6.5.4.

The Kingdom of God spreads through believers ' concern and eagerness to help others. Here we see several churches joining to help others beyond their own circle of friends and their own city.

The point of giving is not so much the amount we give, but why and how we give.

A lot of times  in  fleshly ways we seem to think we don't have enough stuff, or enough money. We are very rich compared to someone who is homeless, or without money, or with only one outfit to wear daily.  If we are without all these things and we know Christ as our Savior, we are indeed rich, we know this. I wonder why someone who has a little more has a hard time helping someone who has a little less.

Look at Acts 20:35

35.In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive.' "

Let's make this our verse when we  start thinking there is no one out there who needs us, we know deep in our hearts we cannot take possessions to heaven with us. Let's pray, seek God, and respond.
