We Read What We Sow by Lisa
Have you ever had those days where a thought crosses your mind early in the morning, just out of the blue, and the thought stays with you all day? No matter how hectic your day gets, or what other things you have to think about, that one thought just doesn't leave you.
Yesterday was one of those days. I was standing in front of the bathroom mirror applying my makeup, and I clearly heard the Holy Spirit, "You reap what you sow." I hadn't been studying "sowing and reaping" in my Bible, I don't recall hearing any sermons on sowing and reaping lately, yet there it was. Out of the blue, "You reap what you sow."
The thoughts just kept coming. Usually I relate sowing and reaping to either tithing or seed planting. When we tithe, God blesses us. I know this because I've experienced it. It's obvious to me. When we plant a tomato seed, we get tomatoes. This is obvious as well. My thoughts on sowing and reaping never go much deeper than that, however, yesterday was different.
Yesterday, my thoughts went much deeper than tithing and tomato plants. Sowing and reaping go much deeper than that. Sowing and reaping are at work in every area of our lives.
Gal 6:7 Do not be deceived, God is not mocked. For whatever a man sows, that he also will reap.
In everything we do, we are sowing. Have you ever thought about what you are sowing by the things you say and do? Sowing and reaping are like cause and effect. Cause and effect is the relationship between two things when one thing makes something else happen. For example, if you feed your body fast food and milkshakes everyday (the cause), you will have bad health (the effect). If you sow unhealthy food into your body, you reap an unhealthy body.
We can sow good things, or we can sow bad things. If we sow good, we will reap good and if we sow bad, we will reap bad. We can sow gossip, slander, hatred, condemnation, etc. We will reap what we sow. We can sow goodness, love, kindness, forgiveness and mercy. We will reap what we sow. What are you sowing?
I realized that everything we do and say is a form of sowing, either into our own lives, or into the lives of others. I want to reap good things. I want goodness, kindness, love, mercy, forgiveness, and blessings in my life, so I will strive to sow those very things into the lives of others.
After giving so much thought to sowing and reaping, it is my prayer that the Lord would remind me in everything I do or say, that I am sowing a seed into a life, whether the life of another or that of my own.
Job 4:8 As I have seen, the ones who plow iniquity and sow wickedness reap the same.
Psalm 126:5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in joy.
Proverbs 22:8 He who sows iniquity shall reap vanity; and the rod of his anger shall fail.
2 Corinthians 9:6 But I say this, He who sows sparingly shall also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully shall also reap bountifully.
Galatians 6:8-9 For he sowing to his flesh will reap corruption from the flesh. But he sowing to the Spirit will reap life everlasting from the Spirit. But we should not lose heart in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not faint
